Overview
Employability Skills with AI is written for people who already support others into, through or between jobs, and who need a current, evidenced picture of how artificial intelligence is changing that work. It assumes no technical background and is not an introduction to computing.
The course works outward from the evidence. It opens with what is measurably happening to UK employers and jobseekers, sets out the law and guidance that currently applies in England and Wales, builds practical AI literacy, then moves through the coaching skills a practitioner actually needs — CVs, interviews, understanding employer-side AI, and the two sensitive areas of bias and fraud — before closing on data protection, signposting and building a sustainable practice. Each module ends with an Apply and Reflect page carrying practical tasks, reflective prompts and links to primary sources; a 20-question knowledge check closes the course.
Who this course is for
Not intended for those seeking a technical AI or data science qualification; it does not teach how to build, train or audit an AI system.
Careers advisers and employability coaches supporting jobseekers, career changers or young people
HR and L&D professionals who need the recruitment and workforce side of AI brought up to date
Recruitment and talent professionals who want a clearer, evidenced view of AI’s role in hiring
Managers and team leads coaching staff through role change driven by AI adoption
Anyone supporting others’ career decisions who wants to speak to AI’s impact with evidence rather than instinct
Learning outcomes
On completion you should be able to:
Describe the current UK evidence on how AI is changing recruitment and employability, citing named, dated sources.
Identify which existing law — the Equality Act 2010, UK GDPR, and the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 — applies to an AI-related scenario, and what remains unsettled.
Apply Skills England’s six AI foundation skills to your own practice and to client coaching.
Coach a client to use AI for CVs and interview preparation without losing their own voice or authenticity.
Explain, at a practitioner level, how applicant tracking systems and algorithmic hiring tools work.
Recognise bias and discrimination risk in AI-enabled hiring, and refer to it correctly rather than attempting to resolve it yourself.
Recognise AI-enabled recruitment fraud and deepfake risk, and direct a client to the correct reporting route.
Apply UK GDPR basics to your own use of AI tools with client information.
Signpost accurately to National Careers Service, apprenticeship and reskilling routes.
Set out a personal, honest position on AI use in your own practice, and keep it current.
Career path
Staying in your current role
current, sourced grounding to support clients and colleagues through AI-driven change, and a documented CPD entry
Moving toward HR or L&D
covers the recruitment-AI and data protection ground increasingly expected in these roles
Specialising in AI-related career support
builds vocabulary, legal grounding and a coaching framework specific to this emerging area
Advising employers on responsible AI use
a working knowledge of DSIT’s Responsible AI in Recruitment guidance and the key regulatory questions
This section is written to be useful rather than encouraging. CPD of this kind strengthens a case; it does not, on its own, open a door. No employment or business outcome is promised or implied.

Frequently asked questions
Q. Will this qualify me as an AI specialist?
No. It is CPD — current, sourced knowledge and a defensible grounding for coaching clients, but no technical qualification or vendor recognition.
Q. Does completing this make my organisation compliant with UK GDPR or the Equality Act?
No. Compliance depends on what your organisation actually does; this course explains the duties, not implementation and evidence.
Q. Does it teach me how to build or test an AI hiring system?
No. Module 6 explains how such systems generally work so you can advise clients and ask informed questions, not so you can build one.
Q. How many CPD points or hours does it carry?
Indicative study time is 18 hours. Whether that converts into points depends entirely on your professional body’s scheme.
Q. Who accredits it?
Nobody, as issued. This pack makes no accreditation claim. If a provider adds one, ask to see the accrediting body named and verify it independently.
Q. I’m not technical. Will I be able to follow it?
Yes. It is written for practitioners rather than engineers or data scientists — concepts are explained in terms of what you’d see, decide or advise on.
Q. Is the legal content settled, or could it change?
Some of it is genuinely mid-change — see Module 2. The course is explicit about what is settled law and what is still commencing.
Q. Are the statistics reliable?
They are drawn from named official and reputable publications, dated in the slide text. Several are reissued on a regular cycle — verify before relying on any figure.
